In the Vendee, a 5 minute drive from Sigournais or 10 minutes from Chantonnay, 45 - 60 minutes from Sables d'Olonne, la Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers.

The barn is in a hamlet nestling in the glorious countryside of the Vendee and dates from the seventeenth century. Many of the hamlet's original occupants worked at the famous chateau de Sigournais. The location is the place to unwind completely, there is virtually no traffic but sometimes the occasional tractor! It is particularly peaceful.

There are working farms close by and it is not unusual to see cows grazing in the fields next to the barn. Over the field beyond the patio of the barn you can see the chateau and it's original driveway through an avenue of trees.

Sigournais is a 10 minute walk away. There is a general store, a hairdresser and a bar where you can eat.

Chantonnay is about a 10-minute drive away where there are many shops including two large supermarkets. There is a general market on Thursday and a food market on Saturday. There is also a cinema and a swimming pool, plus numerous restaurants and bars.

The barn has been lovingly converted to retain its character and history. Originally built before the Vendee wars but burned by troops of the Revolution in the late 18th century. Evidence of this can be still be seen on the stone where its colour has been changed from creamy yellow to a rose colored hue.

The ground floor has a large open plan area comprising a living area and a fully fitted and fully equipped kitchen, a large shower room with WC, wash-basin and heated towel rail. There is also a separate WC room with wash-basin.

The living area includes two settees (one of which converts to a double bed), an armchair, and a wood burning fire as well as central heating. It has a TV for playing videos, a DVD player and a mini hi-fi system for radio, audio-cassettes and CDs. This area also includes an armoire for storing coats and clothes.

The kitchen and dining area, includes an built in oak table with six stools. The well equipped kitchen area has extensive fitted cupboards, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a microwave, a large fridge/freezer, an oven, a 4-ring hob and all cutlery, crockery, and other equipment for all day to day needs. There is a fire extinguisher and smoke alarm.

There is a double bedroom with fitted wardrobes and a seating area in the bay window.

Open tread staircase leading to the mezzanine.

On the mezzanine there are twin beds (this was originally the hayloft) - so headroom is low but adequate and quaint. There are large built - in wardrobes with storage area for suitcases. If you have 3 children we can always add another bed.

Outside there is a paved patio with built in dining/seating area and views into open fields. A garden shed contains the garden chairs and on the patio there are benches and a BBQ.

Overnight parking is about 20 yards from the property.
